Arrest warrant issued for activist Boniface Mwangi

A Nairobi court has issued a warrant of arrest against activist Boniface Mwangi after failing to appear in court to plead over allegations of assaulting a police officer.

Mwangi was expected to appear before Milimani Court Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina to answer to the assault allegation, but failed to show up.

According to the charge sheet, it is alleged that on April 20, 2025, at the Metropolitan Court in the Kilimani area within Dagoretti Sub-County, Nairobi County, Mwangi willfully and unlawfully assaulted Sergeant Osman Omar, a police officer acting in the execution of his duties, thereby causing him actual bodily harm.

In another count, it is alleged that on April 2, 2025, at the same place, he also willfully and unlawfully assaulted No. 87673 PC Robert Oyola, another police officer performing his duties, occasioning him actual bodily harm.

Mwangi is also facing another charge that on April 2, 2025, at the Metropolitan Court along Airwing Kodhek Road in the Kilimani area, Dagoretti Sub-County, Nairobi County, Mwangi, while in a public place, used abusive language directed at Sgt. Osman Omar, with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

The court will be mentioned on June 14.
